NTL Cable: Channel 802‘Dinner Next Door’ A series of community television programmes, made by Dublin Community Television

Have you heard about community television in Ireland? It’s a new and growing sector, owned by, and serving all groups within, the community. At present, there are two channels, one in Dublin and one Navan, and soon to be a third in Cork.
Dublin Community Television (DCTV) is currently making a brand new TV series, which focuses on new communities in Dublin. It’s called ‘Dinner Next Door’. Each half-hour programme will include the participation of a family quite recently arrived in Ireland, and a neighbouring family indigenous to Dublin.
The basic idea is that the two families go out shopping together for food, cook together and eat together. It is part cookery programme, part human interest, but mostly about intercultural communication and diversity – and we are still open to ideas on how the series can have the best impact on the communities involved.
Right now, we are seeking to identify families to take part in the programme. Each immigrant family will talk about their story, their cuisine, and their lives; bring the Irish family food shopping; cook together and then enjoy a meal together.
If you know of anyone who might like to take part, please contact our researcher Kieran Grimes at: grimes.kieran@gmail.com or tel: 087 6595461.
