Trinity Immigration Initiative

Ref: Trinity Immigration Initiative: research project on migrants' networks.

To whom it may concern.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you in relation to a research project on migrants’ networks in Ireland which is part of the Trinity Immigration Initiative (TII), which was launched last September in Trinity College Dublin. The TII is one of the largest research project, within the area of migration studies, undertaken in Ireland so far and has received wide coverage from the press as well as support from NGOs and ethnic minorities' associations (for further information please check www.tcd.ie/immigration)
The study on migrants' networks is supervised by Dr Ronit Lentin, coordinator of the Mphil in Ethnic and Racial Studies in TCD, and is currently being carried out by three researchers.
The study aims at mapping migrants' networking activities in the fields of religion, culture, media, advocacy, and gender; and at exploring how migrant led associations/networks favour migrants’ integration and community development. We are also interested in studying how migrants' 'networking activities' and associations engender 'processes of identity construction' and create sites of multicultural dialogue 'from below'.
As part of this research project we would like to interview and interact with members/key persons of migrants’ network/groups, in order to be able to gain reliable, first hand information on migrants networking activities as well as collaboratively create a body of knowledge on the topic. We are using a semi-structured interview format which means that we don't have a set of questions but we rely on a number of topics we wish to explore (for instance: history of the association/network, type of activities promoted, data on community participation/attendance, gender structure, networking with other organisations etc).
The interviews conducted so far have been recorded and people have received a copy of the transcripts and have added comments or clarifications. The project is intended to be truly collaborative in nature and all the participants’ feedbacks will receive thorough consideration.
I would be extremely obliged if you would agree to meet for an interview/talk. I am available to meet you at any time in Cairde; or in our office in Trinity College; or any other suitable location. You can reply by using this mail address: moreoe@tcd.ie. Alternatively you can phone me on my mobile: 0871300048.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you need furtherinformation.I thank you in advance for your attention and help and I would look forward to hearing from you, yours,Elena
